Along with our client, we decided a radical approach of what should be a badass Triumph Bobber if were asked by the make. The three of us (Florian, Morgan and myself) worked about 5 months on this project, and made several adjustments in the process, inventing technical solutions that we never experienced before to complete what we consider to be our most complex and detail achievement !
First of all, this thin and tall front wheel had to be removed. We therefore replace the entire front axle by a Thruxton R fork, wheel (17 inches), fender and clip-ons. In order to adapt all of these and give it a badass look, both tees have been CNC machined, including a Motogadget Motoscope mini speedo and indicator lights, to gather functionality and minimalism of the dashboard. The original headlight has been kept, and fitted with a HD Speaker-like LED lamp. The handlebars were a piece of work, integrating the ride by wire module into a machined case that would surround it at the minimum, keeping all the traction control, drive modes and on-board computer functions using a full Motogadget set, from mini-buttons to mirrors and bar-end turnisgnals. Braking had to be French though, so we worked with Beringer to fit this gorgeous « top race » braking kit, a masterpiece of efficiency and feeling, delivering devilish performance !
The seat. Ah, the seat, covered with this red croco skin. Well, like it or not, this « floating » seat is the signature of the original bike, as well as this croco seat is the signature of our build. Without it, the bike would be so plain and neat, that it adds the extra madness that we needed, as well as a bit of technology, as we integrated a LED strip at the back of it, that gathers de position and brake taillights.
So this seat is suspended over… nothing, as we entirely suppressed the airbox, side panels, and all the crazy wiring mess that was purposely hidden behind them. And that was maybe the trickiest part of the project, as the entire wiring of the bike has been reduced to the max, and is now only hidden inside the original battery box, that sits on the lower left side of the bike. This « reduce to the max » process allowed us to showcase the beautiful rear shock that has been specifically developed for us by Shock Factory, linking the softail and shortened rear fender, held by a specifically created tubular-section support welded to it.
Of course, we worked on details, such as painting all the metal parts of the bike into black, or using a 3 layers black flake paint to obtain this cherry red hue, which ranges red from orange to black depending on the exposition, and asking master Takahira to hand paint the « Triumph » logo on the tank.
And we sometimes had to take a break, so we also did some parts fitting, as for the belt drive conversion, an excellent kit produced by FreeSpirits that gives the bike this « custom » touch, and a very soft launch, even in low revs, or for the exhaust pipes, that were selected among the Triumph Accessory parts list (Vance & Hines) and keep the looks « stock » and the noise into regulations for a daily road use. And yes, that is the purpose, as the bike is very usable on a day to day basis, with a souple engine, comfortable seating position, good handling, incredible braking, and even decent mudguards if you cannot dodge this puddle !
